For over a year I've been a member of the Impact Hub Munich, an exciting coworking space that has more than 80 offices around the world.

In this period, I could see how valuable it is to share a workspace with other companies, entrepreneurs, startups, and all sorts of restless minds that search for a suitable base to develop their ideas.

Yes, because the place is plenty of ideas and projects. And each new project brings with it many challenges, obstacles and doubts that arise on the way of turning the plans into business.

It happens that in this process, which is most often arduous, many people end up finding very similar problems. And in the search for solutions, they get even more focused on their work without knowing that perhaps the colleague next door may have already faced the same problem and may already have the knowledge of how to handle it, already know possible solutions, or at least know what does not work.

Considering that the workspace is shared daily by dozens of people, it would be great to be able to count on the help of colleagues on a daily basis, quickly and conveniently.

Then in a Members Night event, where people discuss issues of interest of the community, was launched the challenge: how could the exchange of ideas, information and experiences among coworkers be enhanced so that one can access solutions more easily?

To go from table to table explaining the issue to each person would be unfeasible. First by the spending time, second because it would be inconvenient to interrupt someone's work without knowing if that person is interested or available at that time.

To organize an event to bring together the entire community to share problems and solutions seemed something very time consuming and boring. Furthermore, the complexity of the issues possibly would make the access to objective information somewhat complicated.

It was at this point that I thought on the piece of cake.

The idea arose based on the observation of a recurring behavior among the Hub members.

Whenever tasty leftovers of some event were freely available in the coffee area, many people interrupted their work to take a short break for the snack. And, like ants attracted by sugar, the group were especially attracted when there was cake in the area.

Thus the Idea of ​the Cakes Giving has born, a pocket event that soon became appreciated by the community and that established itself as a valuable tool for collecting ideas and solutions.

It works in a very simply and spontaneously way. A member who needs feedback, information or ideas for a specific issue brings a cake to the Hub and puts it on the cakes stand at the coffee table together with the information display. So the community knows that on that day there will be the event.

By midafternoon he or she rings the bell, or simply announces: Cakes Giving time!

All interested people meet then around the coffee table. And, as the cake giver briefly presents the issue that he wants to receive inputs, he distributes the slices of the cake.

Then the group, while enjoying their piece of cake, returns with insights, ideas and information.

So, in less than 30 minutes, everybody leaves satisfied. Some with the snack and the cake giver with new insights about his issue.

Quando uma fatia de bolo pode conectar idéias

Há mais de um ano sou membro do Impact Hub Munique, um excitante espaço de coworking que conta com mais de 80 escritórios ao redor do mundo.

Neste período pude perceber o quão valioso é compartilhar um espaço de trabalho com outras empresas, empreendedores, startups, e todo tipo de mente inquieta que busca por uma base propícia para desenvolver suas ideias.

Sim, porque o que não faltam são ideias e projetos. E cada novo projeto traz consigo inúmeros desafios, obstáculos e dúvidas que vão surgindo no percurso para transformar planos em negócios.

Ocorre que neste processo, que é na maioria das vezes árduo, muitas pessoas acabam encontrando problemas bastante semelhantes. E na busca de soluções concentram-se ainda mais no seu trabalho sem saber que talvez o colega ao lado possa ter enfrentado já o mesmo problema, e que talvez já tenha o conhecimento de como lidar com isso, já conheça possíveis soluções, ou ao menos saiba o que não funciona.

Considerando que o espaço de trabalho é compartilhado diariamente por dezenas de pessoas, seria ótimo poder contar com o auxílio dos colegas no dia a dia de forma rápida e prática.

Então em uma noite dos membros, onde se discute temas de interesse a comunidade, foi lançado o desafio: como seria possível potencializar o intercâmbio de ideias, informações e experiências entre os coworkers para que se possa acessar soluções mais facilmente?

Ir de mesa em mesa explicando a questão para cada pessoa seria inviável. Primeiro pelo tempo gasto, segundo que seria inconveniente interromper o trabalho de alguém sem saber se essa pessoa está interessada ou disponível naquele momento. Organizar um evento que reunisse toda comunidade para compartilhar problemas e soluções parecia algo demorado e chato. Além disso, a complexidade dos temas possivelmente tornaria o acesso à informações objetivas um tanto confuso.

Foi neste ponto que pensei na fatia de bolo.

A ideia surgiu tendo como base a observação de um comportamento recorrente entre os membros do coworking.

Sempre que sobravam comidinhas gostosas de algum evento e estas ficavam disponíveis gratuitamente na área do café, diversas pessoas interrompiam o seu trabalho para fazer uma pequena pausa para o lanche. E, como formigas atraídas pelo açúcar, o pessoal era especialmente atraído quando havia bolo na área.

Foi assim que surgiu a Idea do Cakes Giving, um mini evento que logo caiu no gosto da comunidade e que se estabeleceu como uma valiosa ferramenta de coleta de ideias e soluções.

Funciona de forma muito simples e espontânea. Um membro que precisa de feedback, informações ou ideias para uma questão específica traz um bolo para o Hub e o coloca sobre a base do Cakes Giving na mesa do café junto com o display informativo. Assim a comunidade sabe que naquele dia haverá o evento.

Pelo meio da tarde ele toca o sino, ou simplesmente anuncia: Cakes Giving time! Todos os interessados reúnem-se então ao redor da mesa do café e, enquanto o host do evento apresenta brevemente a questão para a qual quer inputs, ele distribui as fatias do bolo. O pessoal então retribui com insights, idéias e informações relevantes enquanto aprecia a guloseima.

Então, em menos de 30 minutos, todos saem satisfeitos. Uns com o lanche e o doador do bolo com novas visões sobre sua questão.
